I build search and the backends behind it.
I'm Ayesh Rehman, a backend and AI search engineer in Karachi. I have spent more than seven years building backend systems.
What I work on now
In my full-time role I build production AI search for a US company. That work is under a non-disclosure agreement, so I don't name the client, describe its data or show its architecture here. Everything on this site comes from my own projects, which I can show in full.
Where I've worked
- 2023 to nowStaff Software Consultant, 10PearlsBackend and AI platforms. Currently AI search for a US client under NDA.
- 2021 to 2023Associate Team Lead, Salsoft TechnologiesReact Native and backend delivery across fitness, e-commerce and computer vision products.
- 2019 to 2021Senior Mobile Applications Developer, Interlink Multimedia (Jang Media Group)Geo News, Geo Super, HarPal Geo and Jang Newspaper apps, about 20M+ installs combined.
- 2019Mobile Applications Developer, Salsoft TechnologiesReact Native consumer apps and native modules.
How I work
I measure before I change things. A search system gets a fixed set of test questions and a score before and after each change. I keep the failed attempts in the write-up, because they explain why the final design looks the way it does.
- UnderstandRead what the user meant: fix typos, pull out filters like price or size.
- RetrieveSearch keywords and embeddings together over your own data.
- RerankReorder the results so the best match comes first.
- AnswerReply only from what was retrieved, with the sources shown.
- MeasureScore a fixed set of real questions before and after every change.
